I like to keep a few beautiful printed portfolios of commissioned and personal work that are still requested by creatives especially when presenting my work to a client at the final bid process. I’m reliably informed that a well designed , well presented, tactile, three-dimensional ‘book’ remains a very real expression of and link to the person or persons behind the work. I’m making a few book prints this week and here is a image from our last JWT campaign reminding me of all the great locations I was fortunate to work at thx to CD Simon Sworn , and here’s one of them in Southern Brazil.
My first attempt at the Taylor-Wessing was successful and taking my Father along to the opening night at the National Portrait Gallery in London was a proud moment for me.Here is the image I made of Mihaela that I learn almost made it in this year too, in the last 100 from the
60 finally chosen . Ah well , not good enough I guess. Next time tho, next time !. This image and others are now on my new Instagram page http://instagram.com/darranrees/
I usually struggle with the end of year close-down. This year I made two series of subjects that have been catching my eye for some time. The first is the array of discarded Christmas Trees that are thrown out into the streets around the apartment in West London- a rather poignant sight ! . The other is the sheer amount and simply left empty Alcohol containers that appear constantly on the streets. I only ever come across this phenomenon in the UK and is perhaps a sign of the unique drinking culture in the country. Both series are now available on my Behance gallery https://www.behance.net/DarranRees as well as instagram #darranrees
A double Dawn and one Evening Helicopter shoot of The Statue of Liberty recently over a freezing Hudson River went really well and we made some beautiful images as per the clients brief ,( T.B. published in a later blog ) thanks mainly to a great crew led by producer Annika Howe and superb pilots led by Al Cerullo .
